Feeding DC X-Zel with a high straw diet

James Francis farms at New Barns, Oswestry, Shropshire. He feeds his 160 Holstein milking cows during the transition period DC X-Zel as part of a high straw diet.

DC X-Zel is a wheat and soya based feed which contains X-Zelit. X-Zelit binds the calcium from the diet in the small intestine to help reduce cases of clinical and subclinical milk fever.

"We have recently added DC X-Zel to our dry cow ration and it has made a real difference to our transition cows. By feeding DC X-Zel for two weeks before calving we have had excellent results, with all cows calving without assistance and all cleansing with absolutely no sign of milk fever", James said.

"The most impressive change to our previous system is the energy the cows seem to have post calving and their intakes are excellent, they really get going well which is great. Makes life a lot easier!"

He added, "This is an expensive product by it more than pays for itself".
